In her paintings, Sarah Bogner (1980 Munich, lives in Vienna) frequently focuses on depictions of horses, which are not intended to be naturalistic representations, but rather function as elements within a complex painterly structure. By creating pictorial spaces in which figurative and abstract elements overlap and counterbalance each other, the artist is able to explore the relationships between forms, colors, and spatial arrangements. Such motifs serve as points of departure for her painterly processes, in which condensing, superimposition, and dissolution all play an equal role.
The central element of the exhibition is a large-scale painting created especially for the entire ground-floor exhibition space of Kebbel Villa. The work enters into dialogue with additional pieces in which Bogner explores varying scales and formats.
