Collections

The Oberpfälzer Künstlerhaus houses three collections, namely that of the district of Upper Palatinate, the city of Schwandorf, and the Friends of the Oberpfälzer Künstlerhaus e.V., each with a focus on contemporary art. Years of collecting have made it possible to assemble a representative selection of regional and international works from the last 60 years.

The Collection of the District of Upper Palatinate

Since around 1960, the district of Upper Palatinate has supported the work of artists from and in the region of Upper Palatinate through its acquisition policy. The collection now comprises over 200 works and continues to grow. Each year a major exhibition is curated around the new acquisitions. Some of the works are on permanent display in the administrative building of the district of Upper Palatinate in Regensburg.

The Collection of the City of Schwandorf

In addition to selective purchases, the collection of the city of Schwandorf consists mainly of donations. These include around 115 works from the estate of Dr. Anton Haug, and about 20 works each from Fred Ziegler and Dr. Zeller. The collection also includes purchases made by the late city councilor Dr. Felix Hierstetter. Works of art related to the Künstlerhaus, the city, and the region complete the collection of around 300 works.

The Collection of the Friends of the Oberpfälzer Künstlerhaus e.V.

Since the foundation of the Friends of the Oberpfälzer Künstlerhaus e.V. in the late 1980s, around 100 works have been collected. Many of the works in the collection originate from residencies abroad of artists sent from Bavaria or are works created by guest artists in Fronberg and donated to the collection.
