Agnes Lammert

Agnes Lammert (born in Dresden in 1984) is a sculptor and draughtswoman. She works with sculpture, installation and drawing, exploring forms that offer protection or can harbour life: caves, nests, organs, entrances – spaces between the inside and the outside. She works with a wide range of materials: she models using natural fibres, ceramics, wax and wire, and casts in concrete, bronze and plastic. Her sculptures explore boundaries, vulnerability and intimacy, often drawing on animal structures such as hornet’s nests or the communal nests of weaver birds, which demonstrate how shared structures emerge from many individual actions. In her installation-based works, she develops spaces that explore processes of inversion and folding, states of inside and outside, as well as resonance and disorientation. Taking the inner ear’s vestibular system as her starting point, she also examines the biological and social dimensions of the body; walk-in spatial installations make disorientation and resonance physically tangible and explore how a shared body or place can emerge from many individual parts.

Lammert lives and works in Leipzig; her works have been exhibited internationally. They are currently on display in the exhibition [ materialistin ] Care of Matter. Matter of Care at the Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart in Berlin.

She studied painting and graphic art under Neo Rauch and Heribert C. Ottersbach at the Academy of Visual Arts, Leipzig, as well as at the Universitat de Barcelona, and in 2017 completed her master’s degree in sculpture under Bruno Raetsch at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design, Halle. Since 2018, she has taught regularly at the HGB Leipzig and the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle, where she served as an artistic assistant in the class for sculptural and performative practice from 2023 to 2025. Since 2024, she has been a member of the City of Leipzig’s Expert Forum on Art in Public Spaces. As a founding member of the women sculptors’ group [ materialistin ] – Sculpture, Action, Space – she has been developing collective, solidarity-based forms of artistic collaboration since 2019.
