The catalog “Die Perlenkette der Eliten” (The Elite's Pearl Necklace) is being published to accompany the exhibition of the same name by Honoré Daumier and Tom Biber, which was shown in 2024 at the Kebbel Villa in Schwandorf in cooperation with the Berlin Academy of Arts. In it, the parliamentarians of the French July Monarchy of the 19th century encounter each other in Daumier's sarcastic sculptural interpretation and Tom Biber's contemporary, satirical examinations of the political events of the 21st century on paper.
The catalog published by the Kebbel Villa includes a text by Anna Schultz, director of the art collection at the Academy of Arts, as well as an interview with Tom Biber and Jürgen Dehm, director of the Kebbel Villa and curator of the exhibition.
Artist Tom Biber will be present at the catalog presentation in the Z Bar and will join Anna Schultz and Jürgen Dehm in looking back on the exhibition and its political implications.
Tom Biber (born in Ingolstadt in 1966, lives in Berlin) is an artist, curator, and art collector. Raised in a rough neighborhood in Ingolstadt, he worked in IT in Munich in the 1980s. He helped develop one of the first electronic TV guides and one of the first chat groups. After leaving the IT industry, he moved to Berlin and organized charity auctions for SOS Children's Villages for ten years. Since retiring from that as well, he has devoted himself exclusively to his artistic practice. In addition to Honoré Daumier, his role models include William Blake and Günter Brus in particular.
