Radka Bodzewicz is a Prague-based artist working at the intersection of figuration and abstraction, within a visual language she defines as “figurative abstraction.” Her practice explores the boundaries between the tangible and the intangible, the physical and the symbolic, and the conscious and the unconscious. Through painting, she creates autonomous, introspective worlds that examine perception, time, and reality, drawing on archetypal forms and universal symbols to evoke shared human experience.
Painting, for Bodzewicz, is both a ritual and a process of transformation - a way of processing thought, memory, and emotion through image and color. Her work is informed by a sustained engagement with philosophical, psychological, and mythological literature, including the writings of Mircea Eliade, Carl Jung, and Annick de Souzenelle. Rather than illustrating these sources, she responds intuitively to their underlying ideas, allowing meanings to unfold over time.
In recent years, she has expanded her practice beyond the canvas by integrating augmented and virtual reality, video, holography, and 3D models. Through these digital layers, she extends painting into immersive environments and explores technology as a tool for evoking altered states of perception - akin to meditation or dreaming. The viewer’s mobile device becomes an active part of the work, opening new pathways for reflection and imagination.
Bodzewicz graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in 2017, where she studied in the Printmaking Studio II under Vladimír Kokolia and the Sculpture Studio II under Jindřich Zeithamml. During her studies, she completed a semester at Gray’s School of Art, Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen. In 2018, she was a finalist for the Leinemann-Stiftung für Bildung und Kunst award. She lives and works in Prague.
