Katja Sparf was born in Vaasa, a small city on the coast of western Finland. In 2025 she earned her bachelor's degree in fine art from Novia University of Applied Sciences in Jakobstad, Finland. While primarily a landscape painter, she explores a wide variety of materials and approaches in painting, drawing and printmaking.
Her practice is centred around nature, using vivid colours and an expressive approach. Sparf creates dreamlike landscapes from memories of time spent in nature, drawing inspiration from long hikes and extended stays in the wilderness. In her paintings she focuses on form, movement and contrast, using colour and texture to create intensity and communicate emotion.
Sparf’s work embraces personal expression and the subjective experience, reflecting on the relationship between humans and the natural world. Yet the joy of painting and the beauty of nature remain at the heart of her work.
