Eszter Pálfy

Eszter Pálfy was born in Szombathely, Hungary, in 1989. She studied literature and aesthetics at the University of Pécs and translation at Károli Gáspár University in Budapest. In 2019, she received her doctorate in literary history. She studied and conducted research in Göttingen (2012), Tübingen (2013) and Bamberg (2015) with various DAAD and Campus Hungary scholarships.

Today she lives in Pécs and works as an editor for the Hungarian literary magazine Jelenkor. She also teaches at the University of Pécs. Her literary publications appear in renowned journals such as Irodalomtörténeti Közlemények, Magyar Könyvszemle and Verso folyóirat, as well as in conference proceedings.

In addition to her academic work, Eszter Pálfy is also active as a translator. Among other works, she translated Jutta Wilke's young adult novel Roofer into Hungarian (2018). She also translated an excerpt from Egy építész visszaemlékezései négy országból (Memories of an Architect from Four Countries) by Fred Forbát, which was published in the journal Jelenkor in 2019.

Her specialist translations include the article Regény és fikció, újság és valóság (Novel Fiction, Newspaper Reality) by Jernej Habjan from 2015, and the text Az állam keletkezése mint a szekularizáció folyamata (The Emergence of the State as a Process of Secularization) by Ernst-Wolfgang Böckenförde from 2020.
