Melora Griffis lives and works in New York City where she was born. She holds an MFA from Vermont Center of Fine Arts and attended Rhode Island School of Design for a BFA as well as the Santa Monica College of Art. Melora is a graduate of the Neighborhood Playhouse School of Theatre, and attended Colorado College for The Dance Institute with Hanya Holm. She has shown her paintings in gallery’s such as; Edward Thorp, White Columns, Michael Steinberg, Bowman/Bloom, and Ille Arts. Her solo show at 571 Projects was reviewed in Art News. Melora has attended residencies at Saltonstall, VCCA, The Edward F. Albee Foundation, and in Germany at Schloss Plüschow. Melora has an extensive acting and performance background which includes film, theatre, and television - her work in productions as a performer, creator, or collaborator, has been in festivals and theaters in Germany, Israel, France, Canada, and the US. Melora's work is rooted in mixed media painting and drawing. As a metaphoric method of connecting themes - performance, installation, soft sculpture, and writing are intermittently incorporated as part of a body of work. A latitude between disciplines supports a flexible, physical, and playful dialogue, reflecting on the human condition.
